Travel to Sweden.

Sweden is one of Europe’s most incredible countries, with much to offer any visitor. For those who are looking for a short weekend break or the adventure-seeking holidaymaker - Sweden certainly has something to suit all types of travellers.

Situated in the north of Europe - Sweden lies west of the Baltic Sea. It has a long and impressive coastline and forms the eastern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula with attractive mountain ranges on its Norwegian border. Finland is the only other country that borders Sweden.

Sweden is not ideal for the budget traveller - certain items can be quite expensive, no more so than the capital Stockholm, and its major cities.

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and a great location for a weekend break. The city boasts great architecture and historical sights, famous museums, and a large selection of parks, including a national park within its city borders. With nightlife apt for the young, Stockholm has a large range of pubs and clubs. Stockholm is also a remarkably clean and safe city.

Other cities in Sweden worth visiting are Gothenburg in the west of the country and the city of Malmo in the south. A train trip to Denmark from Malmo takes around half an hour.

The weather in Sweden is mostly moderate but the summer months are usually very warm. The Swedish winter months do become very cold. The winter lasts a lot longer in the north of the country where snow lies on the ground for six months of the year.

Lapland boasts the most impressive scenery in Sweden. Lapland is situated in the north of Sweden and has about a quarter of the surface area of Sweden. Several national parks are situated in Lapland. Its high mountains are full of wildlife with fast flowing rivers and unspoiled expansive forests.

Sweden has super inland waterways - The Gota Canal is one of the most popular attractions that can take you on a cruise from Gothenburg to Stockholm. This amazing cruise takes you through one river, three canals, eight lakes and two seas. This is a great way to see Sweden.

The railway system in Sweden is another great way of seeing the country. Train trips can be taken up to Lapland and run all across the Arctic Circle. Special tickets are available for tourists, which allow you to get on and off at stations of your choice.

There are plenty of things to do in Sweden. Boating, fishing, and golfing are some of the outdoor activities that the Swedes are passionate about. Sweden also boasts great beaches in the Gotland region. These are major attractions for the Swedes in summer. Due to Sweden’s mild climate in the south, its food production is much the same as the rest of northern Europe. Its coastal areas are well known for the seafood industry, with beef and pork dishes being popular in the inland areas. Elk and Reindeer are also popular dishes in some areas.

Also known as: "The land of the Vikings", Sweden is a remarkable country to visit, with fantastic places to see. Its friendly people and great scenery will make for a very pleasant holiday in Sweden.
